Why Design is Crucial for Your Short-Term Rental.
When it comes to short-term rentals, your property’s design plays a pivotal role in attracting guests, maximizing bookings, and ensuring long-term success. Whether you’re renting out a cozy cabin, a luxury condo, or a mountain retreat, the design of your rental is more than just aesthetic—it can significantly impact your bottom line. Here’s why design is so important for your short-term rental and how it can enhance your guest experience and rental income.
1. First Impressions Matter
Guests often make decisions based on the photos and details they see online, and your property’s design is a crucial part of that first impression. Well-staged, thoughtfully designed spaces create an inviting atmosphere that will make potential guests want to book instantly. A stylish, clean, and well-maintained space tells guests that they will have a comfortable and enjoyable stay, setting the tone for their entire experience.
2. Maximize Your Space
Great design isn’t just about looks; it’s about function, too. Especially in vacation rentals, where space is often at a premium, creative design can make even the smallest areas feel open, airy, and functional. From efficient layouts to multi-purpose furniture, maximizing the use of space can help you cater to more guests and provide a superior experience. In a mountain town like Revelstoke, guests will appreciate practical design that offers comfort without sacrificing style.
3. Create a Unique Brand Identity
In a competitive market like Revelstoke, where visitors have plenty of options for short-term rentals, creating a unique identity for your property is key. Whether you incorporate rustic mountain charm, modern luxury, or a cozy alpine vibe, your design should reflect the essence of your property and the experience you want to offer. This consistency in design can help set your property apart and make it memorable for guests, encouraging positive reviews and repeat bookings.
4. Enhance the Guest Experience
The design of your short-term rental impacts not only the look and feel of the space but also the overall guest experience. Thoughtful touches, such as comfortable bedding, well-chosen décor, and a relaxing atmosphere, help guests feel at home. A well-designed space encourages relaxation and enjoyment, making it more likely that guests will leave glowing reviews and recommend your rental to others. It’s also an opportunity to create a connection to Revelstoke’s natural beauty with design elements that reflect the local landscape and vibe.
5. Increase Your Rental Value
Investing in quality design can increase your rental’s perceived value and allow you to charge higher rates. Properties that are stylish, well-designed, and in excellent condition tend to attract more high-end guests who are willing to pay a premium for a comfortable and beautiful space. By creating a space that stands out for its design and features, you can justify higher pricing and boost your revenue.
6. Attract More Bookings
In today’s world, people expect more than just basic accommodation. They want an experience—and design can help you deliver that. By creating a stylish and unique atmosphere, you not only make your property more appealing in search results but you also encourage more extended stays and referrals. Incorporating design elements that cater to your target audience (e.g., families, couples, or adventure seekers) will help ensure your property stands out, ultimately leading to more bookings.
7. Improve SEO and Visibility
The design of your short-term rental can also impact your online visibility. Including professional photos of your well-designed space, highlighting its key features. The more appealing and well-presented your rental appears online, the more likely it is to attract potential guests browsing rental platforms like Airbnb or Vrbo.
8. Encourage Positive Reviews and Repeat Guests
Guests who stay in a well-designed and comfortable space are more likely to leave positive reviews. These reviews, in turn, attract new customers. An inviting and functional design can also make guests feel more at ease, which contributes to their overall satisfaction. Additionally, a well-designed space encourages repeat visits—when guests return to a space they love, they’ll be more likely to rebook, and often at a premium rate.
Design isn’t just about making your short-term rental in Revelstoke look pretty—it’s about creating a space that works, feels inviting, and provides an unforgettable experience for your guests. From maximizing space to setting your property apart, thoughtful design can elevate your rental’s appeal, boost bookings, and enhance your overall rental income. Whether you’re updating your current space or building a new one, investing in design is one of the best decisions you can make for the long-term success of your rental business.

Local property manager offers design, marketing and guest services for Mackenzie Village investors
Most Revelstoke residents understand the need for balance between preserving the town’s secluded mountain charm and drawing enough tourism to sustain a year-round economy. Part of that balance comes from creating beautiful, functional accommodations for vacationers that are properly integrated into Revelstoke’s future vision.
“Homeowners interested in creating a vacation rental may find the permit process overwhelming, but it’s important to do everything properly,” says Emily Revell, owner of Stay Revy, a locally owned and operated property management company. Stay Revy is up to date on all of the city’s vacation rental bylaws and helps homeowners apply for business licenses, in addition to staging and managing a number of vacation properties around town.
Local vacation property management
Revell first visited Revelstoke when the ski hill opened in 2007, returned at least once a year, and moved permanently in 2011.
“I moved here right after high school, fell in love with the community and never left,” she says.
After earning her bachelor’s in tourism management she worked for another property management company before launching Stay Revy in 2019.
“Being locally owned and operated means we have a whole team on the ground willing to help with set up, managing guests and handling emergencies. It also means we can offer guests those pieces of insider information that will make their stay more enjoyable — this is a mountain town and your car rental should have four-wheel-drive, for example!” she says.
Get your Mackenzie Village condo rental-ready
As one of the few areas allowing short-term rentals, Mackenzie Village is attracting a number of investors from out of town — and Stay Revy is ready to help them do vacation rentals right.
“We received so many calls from new condo owners asking for advice designing and listing their properties that we’ve created three pre-set designs, exclusively for Mackenzie Village,” Revell says.
The Begbie celebrates all things Canadiana, the Macpherson pays homage to the mountain lifestyle, and the Nelson is inspired by a Norwegian ski chalet. Stay Revy partnered with interior design studio Spruce and Arrow on these streamlined spaces, designed to create good guests.
“Creating good guests means anticipating their needs — having a place to store skis, stocking the appropriate number of dishes, purchasing durable linens and furniture,” Revell says.
Stay Revy has sourced all of the furniture and home fashions for these pre-set designs and can handle orders, storage while construction is completed, and suite set-up.
“Clients can arrive in Revelstoke for the first time and see their condo completely rental-ready.”
The package also includes a photographer to capture the completed space so it’s irresistible to vacationers. When the suite is ready, Stay Revy’s property management packages offer digital marketing, 24/7 guest services, exceptional cleaning, maintenance and more.

We all know the song “ Don’t go chasing waterfalls,” but I can guarantee you’ll want to up here. Revelstoke has so many incredible waterfalls to visit, and here is a list of our top 5:
1. Begbie Falls
Begbie Falls is a local favourite and one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Revelstoke. You will need to drive about 20 minutes on Highway 23 South toward Mt. Begbie Road to get to the falls. You can access the trail from the Begbie Falls campsite or the Begbie Bluffs parking lot. The hike can be steep, but it only takes 20 minutes to get there from the campsite or around 90 minutes if you take the Bluffs trail.
2. Moses Falls
Moses Falls is a set of two waterfalls. It only takes about 5 minutes to reach the 1st waterfall and then an additional few minutes to get to the second. To access, take Highway 1 West and turn right on Westside Road. Make sure you follow the sign that says Moses Creek parking area. The trail can get quite muddy when it rains, so bring some proper hiking shoes. Both waterfalls are gorgeous and worth seeing.
3. Sutherland Falls
Sutherland Falls is a stunning and memorable waterfall. It is located within Blanket Creek Provincial Park, about 20 minutes from Revelstoke. The walk from the parking lot to the fall is between 2-4 minutes, and the view is breathtaking. If you are looking for a longer hike, there are several hiking trails to explore around Sutherland Falls.
4. Crazy Creek Waterfalls & Suspension Bridge
You can enjoy a walk on the 240-foot to the suspension bridge, where two ‘crazy creek’ waterfalls flow underneath. Please know that you will have to pay an access fee to get to the suspension bridge to see the falls since it belongs to the resort located right beside it. However, it is worth your buck. You can even soak and relax in the Hot Pools and see a portion of the waterfalls.
5. Split Rock Falls
This hike is combined with some breathtaking mountain views at Revelstoke Mountain Resort. You will need to take the gondola up to access the falls. The hike is about 30 minutes long. If you are up for it, you can come back down the mountain by foot or take the gondola back down. A cold beer awaits you at the Rockford in Revelstoke Mountain Resort’s Village.
Please let us know if you make it to check out any of these picturesque falls by tagging us @stayrevy. We would love to see all your awesome photos.

These two museums are located quite close to each other. I would suggest visiting both at the same time. They are located by Lake Revelstoke and just the drive to get there can be really impressive.
At the Dam Visitor Centre, you will learn about the history of the Revelstoke Dam, while enjoying fun and educational exhibits. You can either get a guided tour or a self-guided audio tour. We recommend taking the elevator to the top of the dam for a breathtaking view of the Columbia River Valley.
The BC Interior Forestry Museum is as much interesting since you will learn about both the logging industry and the forest biology of British Columbia. Their collection of logging equipment gives you a better understanding of British Columbia’s forestry industry; of loggers, entrepreneurs, and mechanical innovation.

As in many other tourism-based, mountain communities, Revelstoke B.C. is undergoing some changes to their short-term rental bylaws.
The idea behind these bylaws is to increase the areas that currently allow short-term rentals. Hopefully, enabling them to enforce the vacation homes that are not in compliance with the bylaws and push them towards long-term housing. The end goal is to have a happy marriage between short-term housing for tourists and long-term housing for locals.
The city of Revelstoke classifies a ‘Short-Term Rentals’ as; “the use of a Dwelling Unit on a temporary basis (less than 30 days at any one time) for the financial benefit of the property owner to provide accommodation to the travelling public within a residential or mixed-use building.” – Revelstoke Fact Sheet
There are so many great benefits to short-term renting your vacation home and that is why we are seeing this increase in rentals;
– By short-term renting your property, you can earn a higher level of income.
– Your property is cleaned and checked every few days between guests.
– You have more flexibility to use the property yourself.
So where in Revelstoke can you Short-Term Rent?
If you are located in zone CD 8, CD 9, CD11, CD12, CD16, CD17, C1, C6, R1v, R1Av, R2v, RRo.4v, and RR2v – you can provide short-term rentals in a full single-family dwelling without a permanent resident onsite.
If you are located in zone C2 and the 59 properties located at Hay Road, then you are permitted to do short-term rentals, as long as there is a permanent resident residing in either the single-family dwelling or in the secondary suite. You are also still able to use a 24/7 property management company such as Stay Revy.
This is an explanation of the zones at their most basic level, however, there are some variances within these zones. For example, some may require 24/7 property management and some may have limitations on the number of guests and rooms. For further information regarding any of these zones and their allowances, please contact us at Stay Revy.
The difference between a Short Term Rental and a B&B
If you are not located in one of the zones listed above, do not worry! There are still other options. You can apply for a rezoning of your lot with the approval of the city and your neighbours. If you would like to discuss this option, please inquire with Stay Revy.
The other option is a Bed and Breakfast License. B&Bs are permitted in almost every residential zone. The main difference between a Short Term Rental and a B&B is, that a short-term rental can be a self-contained dwelling unit, whereas a B&B must be in the same area as the principal residence. You would have to rent out each room individually with shared living, dining and common spaces.
Getting a Business License
You will need to obtain a business license for either a Short Term Rental or a Bed and Breakfast. It can be a complicated process so please do not hesitate to reach out as we can assist you through every step of the way.
Some requirements of the business license for Short Term Rentals and Bed and Breakfast are;
– You have to have an operator who is available 24/7 to address any issues.
– You may need to accommodate a building and fire inspection.
– You must display the license within the short-term rental.
– You must pay the applicable fees.
If you are wanting to find out the zoning of your property use the Interactive Map from the City of Revelstoke’s website.
For all other questions and inquiries regarding the zoning of your property, what is allowed and applying for a license, talk with us at Stay Revy, we are well versed and here to help!

If you are looking for a memorable and adventurous resort experience, then Revelstoke, B.C. is the place to be. Revelstoke Mountain Resort is North America’s highest vertical ski hill at 5,620 feet. With 3,121 acres of skiing terrain, they are most famously known for their wide-open alpine bowls, tight tree runs and their steep, fun groomers.
To help you make the most of your trip to one of our Stay Revy vacation rental properties and Revelstoke Mountain Resort I have provided you with my five favourite ski runs. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do!
1. Jalapeno
Jalapeno is not for the faint-hearted. It is steep and bumpy and can be hard on your legs on a snow day. However, there is so much fun guaranteed. You can also enjoy some challenging tree runs on both sides. This is one of the most notorious runs at the resort. The views from the top are hard to beat.
2. Subpeak
This one has a 20-minute hike to access it, but definitely worth your while, especially on a powder day. Bring some hot chocolate in a thermos, so you can enjoy a quick break and some nice views before heading back down. It is a very unique experience riding through the snow ghosts (snow-covered trees).
3. Separate Reality
This run is my favourite because it has the best of everything. You have a mix of steep terrain, small jumps and some tight trees. You cannot get bored on this one, there is such a vast area to explore.
4. Bowls
Revelstoke Mountain Resort has four bowls: North, South, Greely, and Powder Assault. When it snows these bowls are especially fun. I love the fact that this run gives you the feeling of being so small in such a wide area. Making me comfortable to just “send it” in the perfect powder stash.
5. The Last Spike
The Last Spike is one of the longest beginners runs found anywhere! Starting from the top of the Stoke and taking you all the way to the resort village. This is a really easy run and it ends your day on the slopes perfectly. After doing a few hard runs, your legs can get pretty tired and it’s so relaxing to cruise down the last spike to the very bottom where apres is waiting for you at The Rockford.
We really hope that our recommendations will help you make some magical and fun memories for you and your group. Enjoy your time in Revelstoke, at a Stay Revy vacation rental property and on the slopes of Revelstoke Mountain Resort.
Now that winter has made its arrival here in Revelstoke, BC, we need to start thinking about preparing our vacation homes. Currently, winter is our predominantly busy season, and we have guests arriving from all over. With back-to-back bookings at most of our properties, it is essential that we have them stocked, cleaned, checked and prepped.
Here are some valuable tips to help get your vacation rental winter-ready.
1. At Stay Revy, we like to have our vacation properties stocked with plenty of extra consumables such as; toilet paper, paper towels and cleaning supplies. By pre-stocking the units, we make it easy to ensure that every guest has what they need to feel comfortable during their stay. It is vital to have items such as coffee and tea for the guests to enjoy in the morning.
2. Make sure to plan and arrange your snow removal services. Once the snow hits the ground, you need to ensure a shovel is available or hire a snow removal service to clear paths and driveways.
3. Guestbooks can come in many forms, they can be either digital or paper copies. The crucial aspects of a good guestbook are; relevant information about the property, how-tos and house rules, local recommendations on restaurants, activities, shops and cafes and contact details on reaching you if needed.
4. It is always good to have many contacts you can call in case of an emergency maintenance situation. Whether it is hot tub maintenance, a plumbing issue or an appliance malfunction, your response time to any of these matters will make a difference between a happy guest to an unsatisfied customer.
5. At Stay Revy, we make sure that each vacation home is tastefully decorated for the holiday season. It is important to make your guests feel comfortable and at home, especially over the holidays. It is as simple as setting up a Christmas tree, hanging lights, placing a wreath on the door and creating some festive cheer for your guests.
